Midweek Mixer

I never drink, but on words. Wednesdays (the ones I remember anyway) will now feature quotes and phrases that make me heady because we all need a boost to get us to the weekend.

"If you've ever underestimated the power of one, then you've never slept in a room with a mosquito."
    ~ unknown

What? Not the first quote that came to mind? It kind of shows my personality. And Dengue fever is running rampant in my part of the world. ;)

Best Books

We all have a list of books we're dying to read. Shifting,  Bethany's Wiggins' book, tops my list. I cannot wait. And Best Books is hosting a giveaway for it. If you'd like to enter, go here. Good luck!

Tag!

The fun and talented Mel Fowler has tagged me and I could never resist a game. What can I say? I'm a kid at heart. There I go giving away two interesting tidbits about myself and the game hasn't even begun yet. I'm just going to get right to it before I reveal any more!

10 Interesting (hopefully!) Things About Me:

1. Before college, I hated the computer and avoided it. Ironically, I met my husband on in a chat room a little over ten years ago. Thanks to #camelot, Professor Hunt and roommate Jeni FTW! Yes, there's a great story there. ;)
2. My husband and I didn't like each other our first meeting. Funny how things change.
3. Speaking of change, I'm one of those people. The kind who love change and have a hard time standing still. Lucky for me I married a man who would end up moving us around every 2-3 years.
4. I sing opera and I compose music. I'm better at the first, but I love the second.
5. . I gave up performing to be a mom; it's the ultimate ambition and anyone who thinks otherwise is fooling themselves. I promise.
6. I love religion. A lot! I hope I don't come off as preachy or anything, but I do love to talk about it and I believe strongly in creating and uplifting, which leads me into #7.
7. I love people. One of my favorite sayings is "It takes all kinds."
8. I'm a huge history buff and I love language. As a singer, I had to study Italian, French, German, Spanish and Latin. I picked up some Egyptian Arabic and Bahamian English in my travels as well. I'm not fluent in any of them, however.
9. I homeschool. For now at least.
10. I love to swim. We spend a little time almost every day in our community pool. I'm currently teaching my 3yo to dive. He's very good!

I'm supposed to tag five people now, but I don't have any idea who's done this and who hasn't so I'm just going to leave it open. If you decided to do it, please, leave me a comment with a link to your blog so I can read it. I would love to get to know you better!

Nook Color Giveaway!

Yes, you did read that right. To celebrate all of my blogger friends (200 seems unfathomable to me), I decided it was time to have a HUGE party and what better way to celebrate than with an e-reader. So many of us are unsure we want to try one out and we hesitate to spend the money. If you're that type, or you just plain can't afford one, here's your chance to get one for free!

That's prize package number 1! But since I am at 200 followers, I figure I need two prizes. The second is a copy of Christine Fonseca's Emotional Intensity complete with some book swag (I just happen to have two copies. I'm not giving mine up!) AND a subscription to Danyelle Leafty's serial novel, The Fairy Godmother Dilemma. An excellent read!

Here's how to enter:
1. Be a follower. Wait, be a leader, but follow this blog. Let's be specific here. ;)
2. Comment on this Post. Easy, right?
3. Share the contest. Whether you use twitter, Facebook, Google+ or the telephone, I don't mind. I'll take it on the honor system because I'm a trusting kind of gal. Just share the fun!

Contest ends at midnight on the 15th. That's it! I wish I could give you all something, but you have my gratitude and friendship. Thank you for yours. You've made my writing journey incredible!

My Apology

I haven't been very attentive over the last two weeks and I'm so sorry for that. Because my husband works for State Department, sometimes life can get a little interesting... Thanks to Hurricane Irene, the boys and I were told to evacuate to the States. Unfortunately when I don't have my own computer (specifically my keyboard!!!) I forgo all things blogging. The posts over the last two weeks were pre-posted. (That sounds like an oxymoron, doesn't it?)

Anyway, I appreciate your comments and I'll try and catch up on your blogs, tours and fests now that I'm back. Thank you!
